MobileFun launches
Spanish and Dutch sites
web imageOnline mobile accessories retailer Mobile Fun appointed Vanesa Nunez and Robin Verschuren to launch its new Spanish and Dutch websites as part of its planned international expansion. The new sites will go live next month and will complement the company’s existing German and French websites. Former Orange and Euskaltel employee, Vanesa Nunez has been made head of the Spain site, while Robin Verschuren will be leading the Dutch operations.

Zara launches US website
web imageFashion chain Zara, owned by Spain-based Inditex, has opened its US online shop. Zara.com is offering free shipping to all 50 states selling the full women’s, men’s and children’s clothing ranges. It is also operating a click and collect service, allowing US customers to pick up their orders from a store of their choice. Zara has stores in more than 30 US cities including New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago. Zara launched its apparel website in the UK last September.

• US retailer Crate & Barrel, which is owned by German group Otto, will follow up its UK ecommerce launch with a London store, according to published reports. It is understood that Crate & Barrel has appointed a property agency to look at premises in Regents Street and Tottenham Court Road.
• Supermarket Tesco is investing $45 million (£27.4 million) in its IT infrastructure. It has tasked CA Technologies to manage and monitor the health of its IT performance across its mainframe, desktop computers, servers, networks, credit-card transactions, suppliers and supply orders.
• In other Tesco news, the supermarket has announced it is exiting Japan. Chief executive Philip Clarke said in a statement that after reviewing the company’s performance in Japan, Tesco concluded that it “cannot build a sufficiently scalable business”.
Neoworks, a UK-based ecommerce services provider, and Contiigo, an Australian loyalty marketing services firm, have joined forces to offer retailers “round-the-clock” ecommerce services.
